Graffiti is a huge problem
Graffiti presents major issues throughout the world, creating a very expensive problem for property owners everywhere. Graffiti in the form of drawings, scribbles, pictures, messages or tags painted on ancient monuments, buildings, walls, street furniture, telephone boxes, bus shelters, desks and other surfaces can be seen in many areas within the community. Where visible, graffiti has an enormous negative impact on customers and the public with regards to their perception of an area or building which has been defaced.
Responding to the problem Nanolia (www.nanolia.com) , an innovative company working at the forefront of nano-coating technology, is introducing an advanced range of environmentally friendly products for easier-than-usual graffiti removal. Nanolia’s bio-degradable anti-graffiti products have been proven to work on many different surfaces including, metals, concrete, brick, stone, glass, plastic and wood to offer an alternative in the fight against graffiti. The coatings meet all relevant requirements of the German Quality Association Gütegemeinschaft Anti-Graffiti e.V.
Nanotechnology provides a clear defence against graffiti
Based on the latest research into nano-coating technology, Nanolia Graffiti Guard for Non-porous Surfaces is an ultra thin (approx 5 – 20μm) two-part clear coating with amazing properties including exceptional gloss retention and long term weather resistance making it ideal for exterior applications such as street signs and outdoor advertising. Surfaces treated with Nanolia Powercoat PRO are highly resistant to soiling and chemical attack, able to be easily cleaned without the use of special chemicals. In addition, Nanolia Powercoat PRO restores dull and tired paintwork, chalky glass-fibre surfaces and cloudy, tired anodised aluminium to their former glory. Treated surfaces gleam as new and are restored to their original colours while most metal surfaces are given the added benefit of long-term protection against corrosion. The coating is ultra-thin and has a high cover rate of about 50m² – 80m² per 1kg on non-porous surfaces. Only one coat is required.
For application to concrete or stone surfaces Nanolia supplies the amazing single-part water based Nanolia Graffiti Guard for Porous Surfaces which can be applied directly to porous surfaces. Free from organic solvents, once dried it forms an invisible, hydrophobic, oleophobic, breathable and weather stable surface resistant to solvents and acidic and alkaline attacks. Paints and coatings cannot penetrate the surface and thus adhere only weakly. It also reduces the growth of algae, lichens and mosses. A cover rate of 8 – 12mtr² per 1kg can be achieved.
Surfaces treated with either product will still “breathe”.
Removal of graffiti after an attack

Applying AG Removal Gel
Surfaces treated with Nanolia’s anti-graffiti coatings and impregnations are relatively easy to clean. Defacement by marker pens is resisted by the surface and can be simply “pearled-off”. More adhesive markings such as cellulose spray paints can be easily removed using Nanolia’s AG REMOVAL LIQUID or AG REMOVAL GEL up to 6-8 times without having to renew the protective layer. Nanolia Graffiti Guard for Non-porous Surfaces can withstand over 25 aggressive cleanings. Simply brush the liquid or gel on, leave to penetrate the graffiti and then rinse off with water.
Nanolia’s standard graffiti removers are easy to use, environmentally friendly and biodegradable. They are specifically designed for the rapid removal of all types of graffiti from surfaces that have been previously treated with Nanolia Graffiti Guard products. The products are available as a liquid for use on non-porous surfaces or gel for use on both porous and non-porous surfaces. Surfaces previously treated with Nanolia Graffiti Guard for Porous Surfaces will still remain porous –so use the gel, while surfaces treated with Nanolia Graffiti Guard for Non-porous Surfaces will be non-porous – use liquid or gel. For vertical surfaces or materials that require a longer dwell time for the remover to take effect, the Gel would be the better choice.
Nanolia even has a remover for surfaces that have not been previously treated with Nanolia’s Anti-graffiti products. Nanolia AG Removal Gel PRO is especially suitable for the removal of graffiti, emulsion paints and latex colours and enables acrylic plaster, acrylic, alkyd, styrene and NC varnishes to be readily removed with water. It can be used to remove multiple coats of paint, adhesive fabric and foam carpet remnants and has even been used to remove tar from carpet pile without removing the colour – one of the most difficult cleaning tasks imaginable!
Spray paints, felt-tip pen and pen pollution as well as car paints and coatings are removed quickly and easily without leaving any residue.
As with all Nanolia’s Anti-graffiti products, Nanolia AG Removal Gel PRO is environmentally friendly, being biodegradable, free of chlorine, hydrocarbons, strong acids or alkalis.
